Shot on the Canon 5D Mark II with my trusty Tamron 90mm f/2.8 with a smattering of Canon's 'nifty fifty' 50mm f1.8.
Matte painting done on the iPad (3rd Gen) using Procreate - finalised in Photoshop. Compositing and animation in After Effects.
I first jotted the idea for BOF in late 2012 - the working title was Handbag. I'm sure most people can relate to the basic premise: have you ever been on a quest into a ladies handbag? Whether it's your mum, your girlfriend or some other handbag-swinging-person, sooner or later you'll need to go in there to find something, and when you do who knows what you'll find in the labyrinthine depths.
I was also interested in applying my skills to a commercial format and Handbag seemed to fit perfectly.
The budget for the project consisted of goodwill alone. Thanks to Liam Mercer and The Sugar Bar we were able to shoot our coffee-shop scenes in one afternoon. With Scott Kimber's enormous green-screen and Robert Mercer's (Wooloongabba Art Gallery) spare lights, we were able to turn my house into a studio for two half days to shoot our Wizard (Luke Rimmelzwaan) and Sean Dowlings antics.
